Daytona Beach is a famous city in Florida. It comes under the county of Volusia and lies in close proximity to Orlando, Jacksonville and Miami. As the name suggests the city is lined with famous beaches which serve as major tourist attractions.
The city is spread across an area of 67.63 square miles. 65.11 square miles is covered with water and 2.52 square miles is covered by water.
As per results published by the US census board, Daytona Beach had a population of around 61000 people during 2010. By 2017 the population has increased to around 66645 and is on the rise every year hence.
Daytona Beach once served as the stronghold of the Timucuan people. They used to live here in fortified villages. After their extinction at the hands of the Europeans, the Seminole Indians settled down here. In 1804, a Spanish citizen by birth gained a lot of land here and started planting rice, cotton and sugar cane. At that time the place was called Orange Grove Plantation. In 1886 after the railway arrived in Daytona situation turned for the better. Daytona was connected with the rest of the country and trade started to flourish. Along with trade came new settlers who started purchasing land and build their lives. Later as automobile racing got introduced here, Daytona Beach acquired the center spot for all racing enthusiasts.
Daytona Beach is known for its smooth and hard beaches which promotes variety of water sports. So, it is also referred to as the Spring Capital of the world. Daytona Beach is also famous for organizing famous sporting events like Motorsports, Baseball and Golf. As a result of which every year more than 8 million visitors crowd here.
